My first body of work
The Summer Shades Collection (2022)
In celebration of all that summer brings, evokes, and inspires… this collection of eleven pieces are a mix of acrylic on 8x10 textured watercolor paper and canvas of various sizes. The colors are inspired by the warmth and playfulness of childhood summers.
Summers hold sweet, colorful, and reflective memories. I grew up in West Michigan, so every summer was soaked up for all it was worth. The colors of summer in the lushness of all the Midwest trees, fields, and lakes, are so special to me.
I lived in Washington state for a short year in my early twenties, and I remember looking out the window on the flight back to Indiana thinking how soft and romantic the Midwest feels, compared to the Pacific Northwest. Ever since then I’ve gained a new appreciation for the softness of this area, the slow pace, and how vulnerable the landscape is to dynamic change with every season.
She’s a little different this year, but I would argue even cooler. This is my third year doing an end of the year creation that includes 12 framable prints of original paintings from 2023!!
This year, I decided to add some of my writing into the mix. I have included 12 of my favorite pieces from 2023 paired with an original poem by me! I’ve titled the booklet, “The stories we tell.” This year, it has become clear to me that we tell ourselves stories that inform how we observe and experience the world. These poems are an exploration into some of the narratives I’ve discovered in myself, about grief, Indiana, memories, love, and more.
This is my first time pairing my painting with my writing and I’m very excited to share it with you.
Each page includes an original poem and a 5x7” framable print! I will be selling my booklets for $65! My 5x7 prints are typically $15 each, so 12 for $65 is an incredibly affordable way to decorate with local art or gift it and spread the love!!
